Gunnison Beach Hash

A Joint Summit HHH and Rumson HHH Fun Run

Sandy Hook National Recreation Area - Saturday September 6 at 10:17am

WhompÉm wll be making a Thai Picnic for anyone who wants to eat.  It will cost $5.00 per person should you wish to participate.  If interested, contact her directly at gert109@optonline.net .  You certainly can bring your own if you'd like to stay the entire day.  Beer will be provided for a cost of only $3.0020per person.  All you can drink, while it lasts.  Amazing Papoose!  Thank you very much!  Perhaps Little Sacs will also bring some delicious salad to share with everyone as in previous years.  Great!!  Thanks Little Sacs!!

On a clear day you can easily see downtown Manhattan from the beach.

Note: If it's a nice sunny day make sure you get there early as Parking Lot G20tends to fill-up quickly and is closed by the Park Rangers. You will then be directed to the North Beach Parking Lot which is about 1/4 mile from Parking Lot G. Allow yourself the extra time. You will have fun at this Hash! Be there, or be square! Also, the beach is "clothing optional", so if you choose not to denude yourself, you're still okay.

This will be a "No Frills" Joint Hash on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Gunnison Beach (Parking Lot G) in Sandy Hook's Gateway National Park. Staying with Rumson traditi on, starting time will be 10:17 AM. Hares will be Elephant Dick and Papoose. It's "No Frills" because there will be NO advance registration, No big registration fee (just $3 gets you all the beer you can drink - until we run-out of course), No tee-shirt, No food; except as noted above and No clothes! Gunnison Beach is the largest nude beach on the east coast and has been voted 6th out of the 10 most pristine beaches in the U.S..

The run will be fully clothed of course, starting from Parking Lot "G" and finishing up on Gunnison Beach where you can rip your clothes off while racing towards the beer (there'll be some Bud for Rumson). If you don't know it already, Sandy Hook is a National Historic Site and the hares, primarily Elephant Dick because he knows the terrain so well, will be taking you past the gun batteries, Nike missle silos and other vital structures that helped defend the east coast during WWII. The run will be basically flat, but running over the large sand dunes can be quite challenging.

For you out-of-towners, there is a hotel near the Hook which is reasonably priced. The Fairbanks Hotel & Marina, in Sea Bright, is located a20little more than 1/2 mile from the entrance to the park. The Hotel telephone number is (732) 842-8450. Remember, this is a "No Frills" Hash and you're on your own. Make your reservations in advance. A backup to that hotel is the Leonardo Motel in Middletown on Rte.36, which is further from the Hook, probably more money and not as nice. The Fairbanks has a pool and the Leonardo does not. Did I say pool? Yup! If you check the web sites below there are additional "recommended" hotels on one of them. They're in West Long Branch and Tinton Falls (Note:  I haven't checked-out that hotel in three years; hope it's still there).
